Joining SBE in December 2004, Saul Cooperstein brings extensive transaction, analytic and process expertise. At SBE, Cooperstein is responsible for analysis of new acquisition and development opportunities and the execution and implementation of in process developments. In this role, he was vital to the underwriting and acquisition process for the Le Meridien at Beverly Hills Hotel, which will be the first property in SBEHG's new luxury hotel brand, SLS HOTELS, when it debuts in mid-2008.
Prior to SBE, Cooperstein was the Assistant Vice President at Public Resources Advisory Group (PRAG), the top ranked financial advisory firm to state and local governments. At PRAG, he provided advisory and analytic services on more than 30 transactions totaling over $45 billion of issuance with clients including the State of California and the City of Los Angeles. For the City of Los Angeles, Cooperstein provided financial expertise on the proposed construction of a 1,200 room convention center hotel, and provided complete analytics on the City's $460 million refinancing of its Convention Center debt that utilized fixed and variable rate bonds and swap contracts to generate a projected present value savings of greater than $70 million. At PRAG he additionally instituted new financing and modeling techniques including optimization methods for large (multi-billion dollar) note offerings, structuring methods for integrating medium-term-notes into a long-term borrowing program and techniques for integrating future variable rate cash flows into issuer's overall borrowing models. Prior to PRAG, Cooperstein worked in the investment banking division of Lehman Brothers.
